We would like to say a HUGE congratulations to one of our 2XS Team Riders Ollie Pidden for his 1st place result in the recent IWA wavesailing event.
Ollie Piddens event write up:
In late September / early October I flew over to Ireland to Achill island in County Mayo for the Mayo Mayhem wavesailing event which is an IWA ranked event. The event took place over three days with two competitions being held. The combination of the two competitions would also decide the national titles for gold and silver fleets as there were no other wavesailing events organised for this year. On the first day of competition there was a big swell running and a lot of wind. I was stacked on my 4.2. After sailing 4 heats I made it into the man on man final of the silver fleet along with my older brother! Luckily the conditions were similar to west wittering and I managed to get the better of him with the 2 waves and 2 jumps criteria to take the win, which he won’t forget any time soon! The next competition was held on Sunday which brought with it smaller waves but still lots of wind. Another full competition was held on Sunday, this time I also made it to the final but it was a four man final making things a little more interesting. Luckily with all the practice I had sailing west wittering I was able to get two good wave rides with an ariel at the end of one which helped me take the win.The combination of these two competition results meant I was the new Irish National Silver Fleet Champion which I’m super stoked with! The Irish wave comps are always super fun to compete in with a good turn out and a really friendly crew!
