Description

The Alpha is Ozone’s performance single strut inflatable kite. It’s simple, incredibly lightweight and very effective – it is a winner for any quiver.

  • Performance single strut design
  • Freeride, hydro-foil and travel specialist
  • Incredibly light weight
  • New design technology

The second version offers amazing free ride and hydro-foiling performance for intermediate to advanced riders while the lightweight single strut design is perfect for travelers looking to save on excess weight and packing volume.

The Alpha V2 features Ozone’s new Continuous Curve Leading Edge construction, each segment is now curved to form a perfect smooth arc from tip to tip as opposed to straight segments with angled joints.

Transversal Sail Shaping has been incorporated to perfectly match the new Continuous Curve Leading Edge. These latest design features reduce parasitic drag and create a cleaner surface at the most important area of the airfoil. The result is less turbulent airflow, which positively affects the lift to drag ratio increasing overall performance.

The Alpha V2 also features a new rip-stop material combination. The new rip-stop canopy material has an advanced ultra flex coating improving feedback in gustier conditions making for a smoother ride. The new technical rip-stop dacron is super tough, used on the Leading Edge and Struts it improves strength, durability and longevity.

An all new Fast Flow One-Pump Inflation System makes set up and packing quick and easy.

It features single point inflation/deflation and a high air flow rate between the Struts and Leading Edge, with clips to seal the hoses to prevent unwanted air flow in case of damage.

Quick and easy to change with no extra lines to add or remove.

These bridle settings extend the kites operating range, bringing another level of versatility to this outstanding design.

Freeride
The ideal balance in performance and feeling for all-round free riding, foiling and wave riding in most conditions. The Freeride setting is the upper knot on the VBG Pigtails (factory setting).

Freestyle/Onshore
The kite sits a little further back in the wind window, with increased bar pressure and feedback. If you unhook or prefer a slightly heavier bar feeling this could be the setting for you. It is also favorable for onshore wave riding conditions. The Freestyle/Onshore setting is the lower knot on the VBG Pigtails.

When purchasing the kite + bar/lines options, you will be supplied with 25m lines, and Ozone will select the bar length to suit the kite. See the wind range & bar size chart for further info

I took the 10m Alpha away on my last trip to see if the hype about it being a great allrounder matched the reality.
It is super light pumped up, and you really feel it when its really light (6-7 knots) as it drifts, but never falls, even in really light times. On the foil it powers up really smoothly, and has massive depower, so super easy to concentrate on the foil itself. The bar has a little more pressure than the Reo’s i’m used to, but that actually makes foiling transitions and dealing with wind variation even easier. It goes upwind ridiculously easily, but the drift capabilities make tricky downwind foiling super simple. It really gives you confidence to downloop knowing how much depower and control you have.
I managed to relaunch it in less than 10 knots, but any more than that and it pops up super easily with a back line reverse launch.
So super good for foiling which is maybe no surprise, but what really surprised me was how good it is to use on a surfboard. It definitely has more grunt than my 9m Reo, but in onshore conditions i was really surprised how well it turns and drifts when you’re riding. I don’t own a twintip anymore but there’s definitely a load of pop for strapless freestyle, so i’m guessing unless you want to do megaloops and full on freestyle this’ll do you nicely on a twintip as well.
There are other good single strut kites on the market, but i haven’t used one with anywhere near as much all-round performance as this before.
Suspect my 10m Alpha is going to be my go-to kite for the summer for sure!!
