2025 Duotone Unit Review

I have been riding the new Duotone Unit for a while since their release in September now, and have used all three constructions: the Standard construction Unit, the SLS Concept Blue and the D/LAB Unit.

This is the first Duotone wing model where you can choose your handle setup: from the new Fusion boom or Fusion handles system. These are optional extras when you purchase any of the new 2025 Units and you can choose either to suit your riding preference. The cool thing about the Fusion boom and handles is that it only needs a few screws to set up (included when purchasing either set up), you don’t need to remove the boom or handles as once its on, you can leave it, as the bag accommodates both set ups when packing away your wing.

The 2025 Duotone Units do have some tweaks, which include:

  • A slightly more delta shape outline
  • Stiffer flagging handle
  • Fusion boom or handles which have new pistol grip at the front
  • New MOD3 S Canopy
  • Improved visibility on windows
  • Additional mid-priced wing to the new line of Units, in a more sustainable construction, the SLS Concept Blue, which has an Allula leading edge section for extra stiffness.

The Unit is a powerful wing, a couple of pumps and you are up on the foil. My personal preference is the Fusion Boom, with its pistol grip at the front hand, it has a great feel on the wing as you have plenty of leverage on the centre strut. The new boom fixings make it feel very stiff and secure, similar to the handles. I suppose the bonus of the Fusion boom is that you don’t have to be careful of your hands, you can place them where you like; however, the long handles do mitigate against this being an issue. Compared to previous Duotone wing models, you dont have to remove the boom, meaning it all fits in the bag. Convenient and easy!

There is a real sense of stability and gust control in the new Unit models and the wing feels super light in your hands. Every time you get hit by a gust, the control over the wing remains. Upwind, and off the wind all feels good.

When you want to flag the wing you can either hold the Fusion boom or handle with its pistol grip, which gives a new level of control. Or, you can grab the stiffer flagging handle, which again has more control over the wing tips than previous models. The Unit feels more stable in the flagging position than ever before.

2025 Unit (Standard Construction)

This construction feels really light. It is the kindest to your wallet out of the three 2025 Unit models. The new MOD3 S canopy fabric which runs through all constructions, is lighter, has better stretch properties, is more durable and has a longer life than the previous models.

2025 Unit SLS Concept Blue

This model has a new fabric that uses less dyes for environmental reasons and it has an Allula short centre piece which joins the leading edge and centre strut for improved stiffness, compared to the standard construction Unit. There is increased use of recycled plastic parts in the manufacturing of this wing too, which is a great start to improving the sustainability of the products we love.

2025 Unit D/LAB

This is the lightest, stiffest and most expensive wing that Duotone make with its ALLULA D/LAB Leading edge and centre strut. Allula has been developed from materials used in the Americas Cup and is lighter, stiffer, stronger and does not absorb any water, meaning it is the ultimate construction, effectively giving you a larger wind range in top and low end wind speeds.
