Last weekend the Pettit’s and the Goodwin’s travelled to Cornwall for the last round of the 2019 British Wavesailing Tour – The Cornwall Wave Classic.
Jamie Hancock who won the single and was then 2nd in the double elimination and Phil Horricks won overall in the Men’s Pro fleet.
Having recently returned from an epic trip up to the Scottish Hebrides to compete in the Tiree Wave Classic we were all fired up and ready to enjoy the strong wind and waves that the forecast conditions delivered in style.
With strong sailing across the fleets in the single illumination and some excellent wave selection and riding by James Arnell-Smith he was delighted to come through the heats and finish 2nd in the Ams fleet.
In the ladies fleet both Emily Goodwin and Jenna Pettit sailed superbly in the challenging conditions at Marazion. Then on Sunday in the double elimination at The Bluff Jenna managed to battle her way through 4 consecutive heats to challenge Sara Kellet, the reigning champion, in the final to finish 2nd in both this event and 2nd overall in the BWA tour.
Another highlight was seeing Sam Ross being beaten in the expression session by two of his proteges; James Arnell- Smith in 2nd and Jack Pettit in 1st.
It really wasn’t that long ago that in conjunction with the excellent 2XS Rippers coaching programme both of these youngsters were learning to compete, wave sail and aspiring to loop – with Sam as the Head Instructor
Richard Hyper entered the event for the first time battled it out in the masters round in in 35 /40 knot conditions at Marazion .
